Flame retardants and flame-retardant additives

Flame retardants are a diverse group of chemical substances that differ significantly in their chemical and physical properties, their mode of action, their toxicological profile, and their environmental behavior. What they all have in common is their essential function:

They reduce the flammability of materials used in everyday and industrial applications and make a significant contribution to improving fire safety. Our product portfolio includes a selection of high-quality flame retardants and flame-retardant additives for a wide range of applications in the plastics, construction, and coatings industries.

JLS-APP – Ammonium Polyphosphate Flame Retardant

JLS-APP is a versatile flame retardant used in intumescent, fire-resistant materials. Typical applications include:

  • Polyurethanes (PU)
  • Unsaturated polyester (UP) resins
  • Epoxy resins
  • Fibres
  • Wood
  • Plastics

Thanks to its properties, JLS-APP is particularly well suited for intumescent flame retardant systems.

JLS-DIPENTA (Di-Pentaerythritol)

JLS-DIPENTA consists of a mixture of pentaerythritol and dipentaerythritol.
This flame retardant additive is used predominantly in the coatings industry to make materials flame retardant. In combination with other flame retardants, it supports the formation of stable protective layers in the event of a fire

JLS-PNA – Halogen-free Intumescent Flame Retardant

JLS-PNA belongs to the group of halogen-free, intumescent flame retardants.
When exposed to heat, these substances foam up and form an insulating protective shield that: slows the spread of fire, reduces smoke and gas emissions, and protects components such as doors, cable penetrations, or steel beams.

ADT Expandable Graphite – Flame Retardant Additives

ADT Expandable Graphite is a halogen-free, environmentally friendly flame retardant additive used for formulating flame-retardant systems.
It is characterised by: high thermal stability, high effectiveness at low dosage, and sustainable properties.

ADT graphite is frequently used in flame-retardant materials to slow the spread of fire. When exposed to heat, the graphite expands and forms a protective, insulating layer on the treated material.

Typical areas of application include:

  • Flame protection for pipe collars and cable ducts
  • Additives for PU foams
  • Fire-protection additives for the plastics industry
  • Combinations with other flame retardants
